"Many passive, compliant American people, walk around with a large target on their backs, all the while trusting government to protect them" Sounds like you think the gov't wants to oppress us. I think as a universal rule, power corrupts. But I also think that our government (particularly repubs) like our freedom and have no intentions of taking it away. For the most part I do trust the gov't to protect us from our various enemies. I distrust the dems way more than the repubs because they actually want to disarm us, and seem to think Americans are better off with the gov't making decisions for us. "believing what government officials tell them" I beleive them unless they give me reason to do otherwise. Again, the dems have a tendency to tell me what is best for me and repubs think the people can think and do for themselves. I think our forefathers believed this also. "paying exhorbitant taxes" This does suck, and the demos again are the main culprits. They fight every tax cut and get in line for every increase. They will do anyhthing they can to seperate Americans from their hard earned money. Because THEY feel they can spend it more wisely than the ones who made it.
