I think he was also talking about how it can be a mistake to claim "with high statistical significance" (because of a very large number of items tested) without first having an idea about the nature of the distribution one is dealing with. He points out that if the distribution is not symmetrical - as in many cases when and investor just looks at past history of stock prices to attempt to predict future prices- merely increasing the number of observations will be foolish and will not provide any more information.

Let's stick to discussing ideas and not criticizing the person. I may have jumped to an unwarranted conclusion, but I should not be the focus of discussion. Let's try to respect each other's ideas and not get into judging motives or implying stupidity. Let's beat ideas within an inch of their lives in a pursuit of truth and knowledge, but not the person. I say let's, which includes you and me.
