Is it your impression that investors were not able to understand the company's clearly presented results? Nothing was hidden (or even obscured) from those who read more than the headline on most reports. Some headlines I saw said 76 cents, others said 99 cents. Certainly IBM's press release was clear enough. See investor.ibm.com
To claim "IBM gets away with a fast one...", shouldn't you be referencing the company's material?
