Saudi Arabia is more a of threat and the majority of 9/11 perps were Saudi Arabian. Further, CIA Director George Tenet said the CIA had concluded that "Baghdad for now appears to be drawing a line short of conducting terrorist attacks with conventional or CBW (chemical or biological weapons) against the United States. Should Hussein conclude that a U.S.-led attack could no longer be deterred, he probably would become much less constrained in adopting terrorist actions."

The defectors are people who believe they'll reap rewards at the fall of Hussein. They have no more regard for the truth or the people of this country than does Hussein. Kuwaitis are attacking Americans. Supposedly Al Qaeda cells are working relentlessly in the Philippines and possibly in Indonesia. They are everywhere, but their shots are not being called by Saddam.

You write: "Saddam is besotted with the idea of getting nukes -- for good reason, as it will likely protect him from regime change." How will having nukes protect him. Will he blow up the competition within his borders? Hardly.

"Now you want us to keep ignoring the threats and minor attacks of Saddam, another avowed enemy. I don't think that's a good idea at all." Saddam has said he will allow inspectors back in his country because he doesn't want nuclear war any more than most Americans want it or most Middle Easterners wish for it. If we can act rationally instead of self-destructively, let's do that. It looks as though we are following that course.
