Most bombing was of Viet Cong positions, not North Vietnam. And we did not invade Vietnam, we did not have to fight our way into the South, which was never controlled by the Communists. Oh, and the domino theory was true. It just didn't reach beyond Indochina.

Actually, we did nothing illegal. We had a right, under international law, to pursue the enemy to sanctuaries in (supposedly) neutral countries. And we should have done it sooner. Fewer American boys would have been killed.

It is perfectly possible that the whole thing was not worth doing. The problem is disentangling the flawed execution of the intervention from the intervention itself, and discovering what lessons to draw.......
