That's the illusion.......we need to clean up the world's messes........globocop meets globoterminator. We didn't like it when England messed in our affairs and that led to the War of 1812. We didn't like it when Russia set up missiles in Cuba and that led to the missile crisis of the 60s. We didn't like it when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. How many times have people complained on this thread when they think our sovereignty is threatened?
You're right, we didn't like it. There are a few important differences though.
1) The world is just a bit different now. If we don't clean up the mess, we may end up with a nuclear truck bomb in the middle of NY. I suppose you would then support military action? I bet you would be critical of why we let that happen at the same time. The potential high price of waiting for a direct attack is too much IMO.
How long does this go on......this fear that we will be nuked? In the name of nukes, we have this huge defense budget and this desire to build an expensive star wars defense system. In the name of that fear, we attack other countries. We sign agreements to reduce nuclear weapons only to renege on the agreement and back out.
First, Saddam is not the one we have to fear in terms of being nuked by a bomb in a truck or suitcase.
Secondly, the likelihood of such a bomb is next to nil.
Thirdly, we can't stop every nation trying to secure a nuclear bomb and who poses a threat to us. We will go broke with the effort.
Fourthly, when are we, the American public, going to stop buying into our leaders' fear? Did you ever hear of the Domino Theory. Presumably that's the theory that got us into Vietnam. The theory describes how China was going to takeover all of Asia by first taking over S. Vietnam and the rest of SE Asia. I can just hear our military and governmental leaders extolling the American public to attack N. Vietnam in the name of the domino theory and to stop the 'red scare'. Well, that was over 40 years ago and all of Asia did not fall to China and the Domino Theory is horseshit.
So when are you going to stop buying into all this BS?
Nukes in the hands of people who would use them on a whim is not something we want to see.
Where is there any evidence that anyone in the world would use nukes on a whim? The laughable irony in all this is that we are the only country in the world to have used nukes militarily. Think about it......the very people who are so paranoid about the intentions of others re nukes are the very ones who actually have nuked someone.
2) This may just be my opinion, but the legitimacy of the regime in Iraq is a farce. Nobody is interested in fighting the Iraqi people, therefore their sovereignty is secure.
Who do you think will suffer most when we try to dispose of Saddam?
Once the dictator is gone, they can choose who they want. It's not like he actually received 100% of the vote this past week (I liked how they reported every single vote was for him when ABC had on tape someone voting 'no').
Do you really care? The election was a farce.
