Brian, I recall from 1998, that when AMAT finally had a layoff of engineers, immediately after that the upturn in orders began, and they scrambled to rebuild their staff. So this time they avoided layoffs as long as possible. But as many people have said, reasonable profitability will not return until costs are cut. And that means staff reduction.
