Dear Stan

RE>>"Father forgive them" is just that. <<

Who is the "them" in that statement?

As far as >"relegated to a figurative status"<

Allow me to inform you that I am not a Preterist first and a Bible student second. I am a Preterist because I could no longer justify the scripture wresting that Futurist views of scripture require. I do not see a "handful" of scriptures that could be taken figuratively compared to "hundreds" of others that must be made figurative.

Your statement >"I find this arbitrary and prejudicial"< is of itself prejudicial. You say that you are interested in "discuss(ing) the verses you (I) find fundamental"

I don't know that I can believe you. You did not really respond to the simple verse I pointed out before.

Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

I can not honestly make figurative anything spoken in those verses and would wonder how you could? Is this one of a "handful" of verses? You think I should make figurative so that some of those you mentioned can be taken literally?

Let me mention that the verses you quoted are not forced into figurative senses by Preterists. I cannot take many of them literally in good conscience even if I wanted to.

Look at the setting of some of those verses. Many of them are interpreted in a figurative sense by most futurists. I think your accusations against preterists is unwarranted. Most preterists that I know are the most honest interpreters I have ever met. If we are wrong it is not because we love the position more than scripture - you should remember that most of us came out of futuristic thinking by studying the subject for ourselves.

You said >I'd be happy to discuss the verses you find fundamental to your position.<

How do you interpret what Christ said in Matthew 16: 27,28?
