Last night I spent some time trying to find intelligent explanations as to why the Germans beat the French so easily in WWII. Turns out the French knew the Germans were arming, did not think they would attack France, and thought that if Germany did attack France, it would lose, because France had military superiority.

I located a book about it, "Strange Victory," by Ernest May, which has a lot of favorable reviews.

One of the thing that interested me was that May ran computer simulations of the battles, and the Allies always win.

My husband, who is a wargamer, says that nobody expected the Panzers to break through the Ardennes as quickly as they did.

But there are many who blame it on a loss of will.
