Ho Chi Minh was a commie because those were the only guys who showed some interest in the liberation of his country. Everyone else was a deaf ear.

And I guess the United States is a monarchy because the only nation that would assist it in gaining independence was a French King?

Ho Chi Minh was communist and so were his supporters. They just wanted the US to get the French colonalists out of his way and were willing to pay "lip service" to democratic aspirations..

Had they thrown out the French and THEN sought to establish a democracy, the US would certainly have supported him (them), if only to establish a state to counter Chinese and Soviet aspirations in SE Asia.
