I'm not sure we wouldn't be better off right now with the USSR still in Afghanistan (assuming the USSR could have held together- but probably not). Who do you think Al Q. Would be mad at then? Assuming they even existed?

I'm sure Bush will make new mistakes and repeat old ones, all presidents do. I am pleased we disagree. That always makes me feel more secure in my position.
