Market report
Considering revising the market log to remove the signals for the S&P 100 and the Nasdaq 100
as the market is moving more in synch. On any given day, 80 to 90 percent of the stocks in
the S&P 500 are moving up or down as shown in the S&P 500 advance/decline reports. I'll be
adding in trend confirmation indicators, the composite trend score and the price phase
indicator, to the reversal signals.
Trend Score
Trend Score is a very useful indication of the overall technical strength or weakness of
the ticker being examined. It is derived from six technical indicators and is designed
to give a quantitative measure of the current trend of these indicators. Trend Score is
computed by combining the values of the following six indicators:
• MACD
• Directional Movement
• Positive Volume
• Volume Accumulation
• ADX/ADXR
• On-Balance Volume
A special expert system computes Trend Score from the values of these six indicators.
The indicators are all trend-following and the expert system consists entirely of
rend-following rules. Trend Score values are similar to Expert Ratings in that they
range between plus and minus 100, with large positive values indicating an uptrend and
large negative values a downtrend.
Price Phase Indicator (Phase)
This price oscillator is used by AIQ as a primary filter of Expert Rating signals. When
the direction of the Price Phase agrees with an Expert Rating signal, the signal is
considered to be confirmed by the Price Phase. In the table below, the change in the
direction of the Price Phase indicator is indicated by UP or DOWN. The expert system
tends to give Expert Rating signals early, anticipating and preceding the actual
movement of price. So that you don’t take a position too early, it's recommended
that you wait for a change in direction of the Price Phase before taking the action
indicated by the Expert Rating.
The Price Phase is computed as the difference between two exponentially smoothed price
averages, a 12-day moving average and a 49-day moving average.
