Any tips for us adults??
Not much success rate with adults I'm afraid. It gets a little easier after about a year. Now, four years later, I don't feel any desire to smoke even during very stressful situations. I sometimes have a nightmare that I started smoking again, but that's it.
The big mistake is to think you have "given up", like I did after 3 years, during my first attempt. You smoke a cigar or a cigarette at a party or something. It may be six months before you smoke another, but you are again on the road to addiction. Not long after, I was back on a pack a day or more. All the B/S about tobacco not being addictive "just habit forming" is coming out of the woodwork now. The USA is a world leader in that field, really quite amazing.
I'm not someone who believes banning smokers from every public place though. Anyone who used to smoke would know how much stress that creates in smokers. I once boarded a jet that had just started a "no smoking" policy. I didn't know that otherwise I would have not bought the ticket. Really! It was hell for eight hours. The plane stopped at NY, and I was expecting to get off the plane for a cigarette. Nope, everyone stayed on board until we took off for the final destination -lol- I keep some extra strength Nicorette handy if I'm on a plane these days. Not for me, just in case I meet some one in dire need of nicotine, and is tempted to use the WC to light up.
For my second attempt I used Nicorette. It was there to help me, used only in emergencies. It worked -g- I still have some, but I really don't need that stuff anymore. The health statistics show tobacco smoking is the most important habit or vice to give up. Barring other illegal drugs. It is a tough thing to do though. Most people fail at the attempt, so don't worry too much if you find yourself failing. Persistence is the key. |
