Solectron Sets Automotive Push

By Bernard Levine -- Electronic News, 10/18/2002

Watch for leading contract manufacturer Solectron to unveil an expanded and integrated push into the automotive market at the Convergence 2002 Automotive Show in Detroit next week. It will introduce a new Solectron Automotive group to help it seek a far greater number of customers among carmakers than it has had so far.

That would be good news for Solectron at a time when many of its traditional telecom and computer customers are hurting, but probably not so welcome by the band of large and smaller contractors that have long heavily focused on the automotive sector.

Brian Antell, senior VP of Solectron and president of Solectron MicroSystems; Dan Perez, Solectron's executive VP of worldwide account management and marketing; and Earl Hughson, president of Solectron Invotronics, will address a Convergence news conference Tuesday on the contractor’s automotive plans.

Solectron, headquartered in Milpitas, Calif., has offered various automotive solutions for some time and is now integrating its automotive efforts.
