IMO, it competes favorably for a place as the best poem ever written in the English language.

Just look at the first line -- of the five substantive words, four of them have to do with death/ending in some form. An extraordinary line.

And the poem may have the highest ratio of quotable lines of any poem of its length. There are at least two book titles and one movie title in it, and those are only the most obvious ones.

But what's the Walt Whitman doing at the end there???
