The USSR was a huge target for many disaffected minorities (of all kinds- religious, ethnic, and political) within the orbit of the USSR. IMO you grossly minimize the loss of that target with the breakup of the former USSR. Your "point" is not relevant to what I was saying, imo. Obviously it seems relevant to you, but it has nothing to do with that I was talking about.
