Bear Stearns sees no PC pickup till 2nd-half of 2003 ($GHA, DELL, IBM, HPQ, AAPL) By Tomi Kilgore
Bear Stearns analyst Andrew Neff does not expect any pick up in the PC industry until the second half of 2003 due to the lack of any positive catalysts. He thinks the industry will be flat for the remainder of 2002 and flat in the first half of 2003, citing the lack of global economic momentum, a current replacement cycle and new "must-have" applications. Meanwhile, the Goldman Sachs Computer Hardware Index ($GHA) is up 3 percent, erasing earlier losses of as much as 1.7 percent. Among PC makers, Dell Computer (DELL) is up 55 cents at $29, IBM (IBM) is adding $1 to $75.25, Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) is gaining 83 cents to $13.92 and Apple Computer (AAPL) is edging up 4 cents to $14.38.
