most numbers I heard was $22. a barrel... This isn't really a free fall but will be great for world economy... I don't know if this would hurt oil companies.. They are paying x price (contract or spot market) and mark up for a pass through adding refinery and transportation costs... I would expect once the price settles the margins will come back in line.
The only way severe lower prices would hurt oil companies would be areas of high investments to retrieve oil making it not worth it to pump if barrel goes below breakeven costs.
