Solectron provides the automotive industry with an extensive array of technologies, products and services, including electronic controls, switches, instrumentation, actuators, sensors and entertainment systems. These products and services have applications in the engine and drive train, safety and security, information and entertainment, and comfort and convenience electrical subsystems. Solectron's automotive offerings include products and technology, design and manufacturing services that enable automotive customers to focus on higher-level solutions in this complex and competitive business.

"Solectron has a strong automotive culture and expertise that automotive customers can utilize," said Brian Antell, senior vice president, Solectron, and president, Solectron MicroSystems. "Solectron understands the automotive industry and adds value to the supply chain by providing technology, products and high quality, low-cost global electronics manufacturing services. We are investing in and expanding our automotive services. The automotive sector is a key market for Solectron, and we are building a long-term position in this important industry."

Solectron strengthened its automotive design and production resources when it acquired Sony facilities and NatSteel Electronics in 2000. As a result of those transactions, Solectron manufactures safety-electronic-control modules for airbags and anti-lock brake applications, and designs and manufactures AM/FM CD players, CD changers, CD mechanisms, tuner modules and advanced vehicle navigations systems.

The company also added a broad range of automotive products, technology and manufacturing services offerings by acquiring Kavlico, Invotronics and C-MAC MicroTechnology in 2001. With these acquisitions, Solectron gained technology and products expertise, such as electronic pressure sensors, under hood hybrid microelectronic modules, data bus and body electronic controls, actuators, switches, simultaneous voice and data protocol, telematics, RF modules and GPS module manufacturing.

Solectron has integrated its existing automotive manufacturing services, enabling the company to offer comprehensive automotive electronic solutions and services that save customers time, money and bring their products to market faster. Solectron chose Convergence 2002 to introduce the integrated services offered by Solectron Automotive.

"With Solectron's technology, global footprint and automotive expertise, we are positioned to be the partner of choice for automotive customers," said Dan Perez, executive vice president, Worldwide Account Management and Marketing, Solectron. "Solectron currently supports OEMs, Tier One, Tier Two and Tier Three customers. The breadth of products and services available at Solectron enable us to tailor solutions to meet our customers' needs across all tiers."

Solectron serves automotive customers at 17 sites with QS9000/TS16949 certifications in Asia, Europe and North America.
