"Certain inalienable rights" are perceived by people worldwide, not just the American founders.

Yes and do you suppose that the people of Iraq get full exercise of those inalienable rights?

Declaring unilateral military preemptive strikes, with secret "evidence", further erodes credibility.

Specific recent evidence has not been made available but tons of older evidence is available. Do you really doubt that Iraq has a large WMD program?

As for unilateral strikes. Iraq started the whole thing back when they invaded Kuwait. There where specific requirements put on Iraq to get a cease fire. Iraq has violated those again and again for 11 years. Hence the cease fire is null and void. Even if the US really needed UN support to act to protect its own interests (and it doesn't) any attack would be covered by the original UN resolutions and the cease fire terms.
