If you are saying it is not an individual right then it is a reversal.

Are you saying that the reason for an absolute right for individuals to have weapons is so they can protect militias, or protect the right to form a militia? That would seem to be a cart before the horse kind of argument. The implication is that a random bunch of armed individuals would suddenly band together in a crisis. That's not a militia, that's a mob. The only sensible interpretation is that coordination and responsibility preceeds the possesion of sanctioned force.

The militia of the time (Revolutionary War and to the signing of the constitution but also before and after) was people who used their own weapons to deal with a threat to the country. There often (but not always) was coordination before hand, but in many cases many of the people who joined the militia did not sign up for any state body or organization before the militia was called out. Most frequently the militia was just every able bodied man that could be called up. There may have been a cadre of more experienced more regular officers but the rank and file where just grabbed their own weapons and joined in.

Also by current US law I am a member of the milita and so is every other able bodied male of the appropriate age (something like 18 to 45, I can look it up if you like).
