soldiers entice children like mice into a trap and murder them for sport.

One day the story of Israeli occupation will be written, despite the best efforts of Israeli censorship. And it will be a horror.

Children have been shot in other conflicts I have covered—death squads gunned them down in El Salvador and Guatemala, mothers with infants were lined up and massacred in Algeria, and Serb snipers put children in their sights and watched them crumple onto the pavement in Sarajevo—but I have never before watched soldiers entice children like mice into a trap and murder them for sport.

I don't know if Israelis are so unique. I suspect that if we had a full list of world atrocities there would be such as these and worse. I don't demonize Israelis.

But it merely points to what I tried to express in my last post - Israel is becoming poisoned by the occupation. It is horrible what they are doing to the local population. It is horrible what happens to Israeli civilians. But the biggest price Israel pays, is in raising monsters among themselves. It is the moral degradation that by degrees eventually denies the humanity of others (Arabs), and rebounds to the destruction of their spirit. Israel is becoming a ghoulish place, where people live in complicit knowledge of crimes and ways of thinking quite like the Nazis. It is a slippery slope. By degrees they are getting deeper and deeper in.

Many Israeli intellectuals used to warn about this price of occupation - but they have been silenced, or emigrated. Soon we will not dare look at what is left - for fear of disgust.

You bet the U.S. public opinion will catch up to the rest of the world. The Europeans have already seen it. Not if, but when.
