re bandwidth test sites....

this one is the most fun (i think it's the graphic interface).... promos.mcafee.com

this one has sound effects.... beelinesoftware.nl

and here are a few other reliable sites, besides dslreports, pitstop...

2wire.com
bandwidthplace.com
webservices.cnet.com
lax.speakeasy.net
surewest.net

btw, my cable modem (cox.net) was really bogging down on me recently. lots of troubleshooting led me to a very successful conclusion. i was running two software firewalls, along with my linksys router... norton internet security (same as norton personal firewall), and zonealarm free. i found that when i shut down the norton firewall i got all of my speed back. the norton firewall was severely limiting my upload times.

since i am now behind the linky router, i did not mind disabling the one firewall and just going with zonealarm.

as tc likes to say, your mileage may vary.

:)
