OT John, wanna_bmw, Deibutfeif, Vance, and Thread, (bad personal news)
My Dad had a nice breakfast with my Mom, (they had pancakes, one of our family's favorite breakfasts) and all of a sudden he got intense, acute pain after the meal. My sister took him to the ER room where my brother works and he's in ICU in the hospital due to what they now know is a gallstone that clogged the duct. 20% of everyone has gallstones. It's not suppose to be life threatening. But this clogged duct infected his pancreas (pancreaititis). His kidney's recently failed out due to the pancreasititis. He's on dialysis now, but the kidney doctor said the kidney issue could be reversable. But his other systems, liver and lungs, are not functioning well as a result of all of this. But the kidney doctor said at noon today he thinks his liver is doing fine though his lungs are compressed (I believe due to liquid.) He's on life support systems. His ct scan didn't show any big problems of the pancrease (swollen as expected) but they can't conclusively say. They are stepping up another procedure on Thursday and I'm scared for him. Two of my brothers who are doctors at that point asked the surgeon if the hospital should go the course, and the surgeon said yes.
Before my Dad couldn't talk, my Dad told my brother that he wanted to pull through this. My Dad's strong and is a fighter. He's never lost a battle he's wanted to win. That is my hope - I want my Dad to win this. This just isn't the way nor the time to lose him. He's needed by all of us. My Mom really needs him. I don't see how she could cope without him, they've been married forever.
He's still cognizant and was able to wink when my sister asked him to wink his right eye today. When my brother asked him to wiggle his toes, he did it with a style that seemed to my other sister and brother that my Dad was almost conveying some humor, but that was a couple of days ago. My Dad is the funniest person in the world - it's very much just like him to try to make fun of the most serious situations and try to get us to laugh. When he once had an angioplasty, the doctor told him there was a 50% chance it could come back and my Dad made the witty comment, well, if it does, would I get the next second one for free then? He got the doctor to laugh so hard.
He loves the outdoors and I share that with him. I really want to go for a walk with him again. I love him a lot and don't want to lose the only Dad I have.
I'd appreciate if everyone says a prayer this evening for my Dad to pull through this soon and to pray he starts showing signs of turning around really soon. Everyone wants him to make it through this.
Thank you, Amy J ( Got the PMs/emails re: ihub, but won't be posting until my Dad is better. ) |
