whatever a JDAM bomb is

JDAM = "Joint Defense Attack Munition"

It's a conventional bomb with a GPS unit attached. You program a bunch of them to hit specific targets and drop them from a B52 or whatever. Very cheap and fairly accurate, but supposedly vulnerable to jamming. Maybe they should upgrade to CDMA to avoid the jamming.

The high body count I'm referring to was in northern Afghanistan where the Taliban and Northern Alliance were previously locked into static trench warfare. The NA knew the enemy positions and the JDAMs made mincemeat out of the guys in black turbans. Many were poorly-trained volunteers who rushed in from Pakistan at the start of the war.
