It's a girl!

Last night our beautiful daughter was born.

She weighed in at 7lbs. 15 oz.
21 inches long.
Perfect in every way.

However it was a very long night.

Andrea had some difficulties.
It seems that her uterus didn't want to contract back into the small shape it was supposed to.
She began hemoraging.
It was truly the scariest night of our lives.
Even the doctors and nurses looked scared.

They brought her back into the O.R. and removed her uterus.

She's in intensive care right now and they are monitoring her to make sure she's okay.
She needed a transfusion to help make up for the blood she lost. She lost about half of what she started with.

I sat in a room by myself for most of the night.
The only thing that kept my sanity was having the little baby to feed and stare at for a little while.

Finally around 5:00 am I was allowed to see Andrea again.

She seems alert and we talked for a while.

She is an amazing woman. Words can't describe the love and admiration I have for her. She's beautiful and couragious.

The surgeon told me she was even kidding around with him before the operation.
He had told her that he was going to give her a historectomy but leave her ovaries and other stuff so she will not go through that change thing that women do.
He explained that she just won't have to deal with a period each month or at least not nearly as uncomfortable.

She looked at the doctor with a dead pan look on her face and said, "So what's the downside? Let's get it over with already. I'll be dancing for joy."

The nervous doctor laughed.

I still have not gone to sleep.
I just sent the kids off to school and plan to take a nap before I go back to the hospital.

I'll tell her you all said hi and wish her well.

The doctor hopes to have her out of intensive care by tomorrow and possibly home by Sat or Sunday.

I have pictures and will try to post them eventually.
No time right now.

Say a little prayer for my darlin for me please.
I love her so much.

-John
