Front Porch Digital Installs PACS/RIS Management System for Kodak; Front Porch Digital Preserves Radiology and Patient Content in Holland
Wednesday October 23, 8:06 am ET

NEW YORK, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Front Porch Digital Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: FPDI - News), a leader in the conversion, preservation and management of analog and digital content, including text, images, audio, graphics, video and rich media, today announced that Kodak has chosen Front Porch Digital to supply an archive storage system as an integral element of a multi-site RIS/PACS system. The 50TB archive will store both images and patient information for the Reinier de Graaf Hospital in Holland.
Kodak's radiology management system will allow Reinier de Graaf to preserve, retrieve and repurpose the hospital's assets and allow all four of the regional clinics to access the information easily and quickly. The system will eliminate the need for physical storage and distribution of x-ray films between the clinics and expedite image and information availability. The new radiology management system is on schedule to be operational by December 2002.

Reinier de Graaf will be the first multi-site hospital in the Netherlands to have a combined RIS/PACS management system. Integration of their radiological information system and the digital archive was their highest priority. Kodak chose Front Porch Digital's system because of a combination of performance, cost effectiveness, and a trust in their solutions.

Front Porch Digital supplied and integrated their medical Digital Intelligent Versatile Archive (DIVA), designed specifically for medical use with the Kodak system to provide an integrated system for Reinier de Graaf. The System implemented by Front Porch Digital has a capacity of 50 TB, which exceeds the ten years' storage required by Dutch law and is able to smoothly adapt to fulfill Reinier de Graaf's current and future needs.

"Front Porch Digital solves a number of Reinier de Graaf's problems by the digital capture and storage of x-ray images," said Chris Varian, European Digital Solutions Manager of Kodak. "The physical transport of x-ray films is labor intensive and utilizes valuable physical space. Currently, x-rays are stored at nine different locations within the group and physical archive space had already reached maximum capacity. In addition, a patient may be examined or treated in multiple hospital locations, which creates the risk of lost x- rays, delayed treatment and exposure to increased dosage during multiple x- rays. All of the problems will be resolved with the launch of Front Porch Digital's DIVArchive."

"We are pleased that Kodak has selected our product to service their Reinier de Graaf account," said Don Maggi, CEO of Front Porch Digital. "Our successful partnership with Kodak further strengthens our leadership position and expands our burgeoning customer base in Europe."
