| That makes some sense, except that Bowie would be at the 3 o'clock position in the metro area, roughly. Still, assuming he was somewhere east of Georgia Avenue and north of Route 50 might account for choosing Bowie as a variant, and also for heading down 95 on the Virginia side, more than Fairfax, which had one shooting, I believe. (If you took the top of the Beltway, choosing a Fairfax location would be more natural than Fredericksburg or Ashland). On the other hand, the Bowie location is off the first major exit from 50, near a commuter train platform and a state college, and therefore may evidence lack of knowledge and merely going by signs to find a major target. Also, taking that side of the Beltway would not be very unusual from the Silver Spring area. Also, the beginnings of the spree suggested someone more acquainted with this area, particularly Aspen Hill/Wheaton/ Rockville. One of the shootings happened less than 5 miles from me, towards the bottom of the commercial strips on Rockville Pike, at the White Flint Mall in North Bethesda. Then he stopped, and ended up over on Georgia Avenue, finishing that particular spree just over the District line. That suggests he was getting into terra incognita, and went back to something more familiar...... |
