Our best hope is that Bush does "call their bluff" and move ahead at the UN, by making France or Russia veto the motion.

One of the biggest problems with this approach, Bill, is underlined in Fallows' piece in this month's Atlantic Monthly, the problem of what happens afterward. It's exceptionally well done and makes, among many well made points, the point that if we go alone, the aftermath is almost incomprehensibly worse.

I posted the SI url for it earlier, apparently FL posted it sometime back, but if you can't find that earlier message from me, you can either search the thread on Fallows (it comes up quickly) or I'll send it again. I was busy last night sending the url to friends along with the note to read Pollack.
