Lower margins are the name of the game in high tech. That is why the leaders have to keep inventing to stay ahead of the pack who cause margins to go down.

Lower margins to maintain volume are to be expected. Selling at a loss to gain market share is how Japan and the internet bubble (and even the telecom bubble) collapsed and was what David Packard was against. A core fundamental of the HP Way is the company is in business for making a profit above all else.
