Not much hope of that, I fear.

The anti-personal-freedom lobby is too strong for that.

It's one of those issues that makes strange bedfellows. Conservatives who otherwise deplore government intrusion into private affairs, huge government buraucracies, and billions of dollars of tax dollars wasted, on this issue want nothing more than more government, more bureaucracy, and more tax dollars poured down the rathole.

Philosophical consistency is SO difficult to maintain.
