The following is an excerpt:

"The "beige book" report, compiled by the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis from
information gathered before Oct. 15, will be used by Fed officials when they meet on
Nov. 6 to mull interest rate policy.

Financial markets showed little reaction to the Fed report, as it largely underscored
previous signs of weakness.

"Looking at the national picture, none of this is news; the official sales, production and
labor market data have clearly weakened in recent months, in response to the drop in
corporate and consumer sentiment that followed the fall in stock prices," said Ian
Shepherdson, chief U.S. economist with High Frequency Economics, in a research
note."
