On nomination of a beardless mullah to Chief Ministers job in NWFP..<<The JI leadership also appears unhappy that the beardless Durrani had been preferred to other capable but bearded contenders for the chief minister's job. He is one of the three JUI-F MPAs without a beard, the other two being Bannu's Hameed Shah and Swabi's Abdul Majid Khan. There were also reports of bitterness among some JUI-F MPAs and religious scholars over Durrani's nomination even though none of them has publicly opposed the move. Many of them interpreted nomination of the beardless Durrani as an attempt to appease the powerful military-led Pakistani establishment as well as the Western countries.

The JI objections would surely annoy the JUI-F and sow the seeds of distrust in the MMA. But the central MMA leadership is expected to sort out the matter and direct the provincial leaders of the JUI-F and JI to sink their differences and work in a spirit of teamwork. The MMA's central leadership is aware that their government in the NWFP would have to perform better than the previous ones so as not to disappoint well-wishers and supporters. Failure on account of differences in MMA ranks could sound the death-knell for the nascent Islamic coalition.
