Yes, I have had my share of "serious domestic problems on my hands". Dealing with one right now. Our partners seems not to have evolved as we -who have to earn a living- did. In the age of jet plane cheap tickets, internet, video over the Internet, dirty cheap phone calls, you can keep your friends. The kids growing in this new world will have the best advantage against those kids who lived in a 400Km radius. That will compensate for any burden they are getting right now. For life starts not at teenage. Life starts much later. Fortunately, my small daughter, whose first words were in Indonesian language, spoke, Swedish, Czech and now is settled with Portuguese and English. She has always studied in an International School, even now that she is in Brazil. Funny, lots of people envy the life I have been living for the past 19 years.
