According to my data service, the difference between the year to date declines of QQQ and NDX differ by only 1/2% (12/31/00 close to 10/23/02 close), which corresponds to a 0.19 change in QQQ. I can't see the intraday data for 12/31, so I don't know how QQQ changed between 4:00 and 4:15, but it can easily move that far in that time. Some of the difference could be due to things like dividends that OX has mentioned. In any case, the difference is too small to be of any significance for a trading decision, IMHO.
