Conservative Republicans delivered the votes on NAFTA and GATT.
They sure did. True enough. One funny thing though - wasn't it that filthy liberal, the man "Conservative Republicans" and cons in general love to hate and demonize, Clinton, who spearheaded the NAFTA and a lot of the GATT effort? Ouch. Maybe Clinton is "current", LOL! Just checking<ggg>.
That they have to play politics at times is merely to say that we have a democracy.
Suuure, of course - democracy. Btw. was Smoot-Hawley passed under dictatorship? Just curious.
"Play politics sometimes" - I imagine this is how I'd feel upon discovering that there is no Santa, had I ever believed in Santa to begin with. You don't say? Really? And here I thought that the entire point of having a PRINCIPLE is that you don't play politics with it, especially when, as in the case of steel, it is not just playing at the margins, but a huge blow against the very thing you profess to believe in. If your practice is to engage in raw protectionism as long as it is in the narrow "interest" of your guys, but are all for "free" trade when the other guys ox is gored, well, then your PRINCIPLE is worth about as much as Enron stock. Looks to me like the big bad Clinton whom the cons like to see as devil incarnate, had a heck of a lot more "principle" in going against his base, than the whole thieving lot "current" at the trough. But hey, it is all "politics" - wait, what's that noise about "PRINICIPLE"? Oh, I see, that too is just "POLITICS", LOL!
I'm still very confused as to who is oinking in the White House right now - is it a "current" crew, or "Buchananite" crew? |
