PESHAWAR, Oct 23: The Crimes Investigation Department (CID) arrested two Al Qaeda suspects during a pre-dawn operation on Wednesday.

Police sources confirmed the arrest of the two Al Qaeda suspects saying that CID personnel along with an FBI team conducted the raid in the early hours of Wednesday in the Faqirabad area and arrested an Arab, Abdul Waheed, whereas another Arab, Abdullah, escaped. Ten detonators along with fuses, one pistol, two wireless sets, two mobile phone sets, two CPUs and some important CDs were also taken into custody, the sources added.

"The exact nationality of Mr Waheed is not yet confirmed, and is suspected to be one of the top leaders of the Al Qaeda network," the sources claimed, adding that the suspect and his family members could speak broken Pashto.

They further said that on pointing at a house by Mr Waheed the CID and the FBI team also arrested another Al Qaeda suspect, Abdur Rahim, from Shinwari Sarai area on Dalazak Road. He was said to be from Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan.

Both the suspects were handed over to the FBI investigation team for interrogation, the sources said.
