Let me clarify... It's like abortion clinic bombers. The vast majority of pro-life people would find it completely inconsistent with their beliefs to blow up a clinic, with the possibility of loss of human life. But then along comes some psycho. He's really looking for an excuse to blow something up, and by tying it into the anti-abortion movement he has an excuse. But that isn't really his motivation. He just wants to blow something up. Other good causes have had similar problems. The Black Panthers might be a good example; some thugs using the civil rights movement as their justification.
