Electronic Media via Individual Inc. : The rollout of HDTV is most
often compared to the marketing of color television. Below, a look
at household penetration rates in the beginning years of color,
and its eventual explosion in the late '60s and beyond, as
networks increased their color fare, and prices came down. In
1954, a color TV cost $460 (that's $2,655 in 1996 dollars). This year,
the average wholesale cost is $286.
