You really think election has something to do with it? In 2000, we tanked hard into the election, (and that was a bigger election) and in fact, that was a rude wake-up call for me....for tax reasons (needed to make it until Jan. for long-term gain), I held some longs.....I knew the history about Pres. election rallies/Oct-May etc., so all things combined, I thought "surely, we won't tank Sept/Oct AND Nov/Dec"
Freakin' worse decision of my (financial) life.....a hard way to learn the lesson, "NEVER stay in a trade for tax reasons"...I woulda bailed w/o (also, the freaky presidential tie messed me up...kept thinking, "this thing will pop on that announcement ng). Finally went all cash end of Nov (argh- missed a nice pop right there), and my bear life was born.
(BTW- In summer of 2000, I was doing as well as spring 2000...avoided all internet, and held mostly solid tech like Csco, EMC, etc-g Bailed on last share of Csco at 50, and EMC 72....very fortunate) |
