Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table any more

is the the true part of the story from mishedlo. Actual life is even more unfair to the poor, as the rich guys work even harder to escape taxes. Tax consultants and Lawyers win.

A straight tax rate would be a winner imho. Much harder to wheedle out of, easier to detect fiddles. i.e. best for the poor too.
