On, I agree we should probably drop this. Neither of us is terribly interested. As far, however, as the sociologist comment, the level and range of categories is, of course, one of the genuinely large issues in the discipline. But you and I were not talking about categories as analytical but categories as political tools. Different discussion so far as I'm concerned. The classic one these days, as far as political tools is concerned, is "extremist." Heaven forbid one sit still to be condemned for being outside some sort of mainstream.
