While the quote above is not surprising, much of the article would be laughable were it not so tragically sad. Let's see a reporter goes to Vanguard (home of index funds) and concludes that "In practice, market timing cannot be achieved with a useful degree of precision by anyone, expert or amateur." Big surprise. Pure shibboleth. Easily disproved by certain astute posters on SI, Ihub, Motley Fool and even Yahoo. All one has to do is carefully watch.

'Course if one didn't believe the shibboleth, why would you buy an index fund in anything other than a secular bull market? Index funds are for lazy LTB&H types that don't want to do any DD. Before this secular bear is over anyone in Vanguard's index funds will be crucified.

We will find out in a couple of years when exactly the bear market ended

Wrong again. First the guy says you can't market time then he does it - badly. What a joke.
