No, because we already owned it. Bought it from Napoleon in 1803 (Louisiana Purchase)(Jefferson). Louisiana went all the way to the Pacific.

Jefferson sent Louis and Clark to see what we had bought.

Hegemony was kicking the the Indians out of almost everywhere (Jackson), the Spanish out of Florida (Jackson again), the Mexicans out of Texas and the rest of the Southwest(Polk), and the Brits north of the 49th Parallel (Polk again). We also bought Alaska from the Russians (Johnson but the deal was in the works under Lincoln).
