Hedging is prudent with huge mega projects. Barrick is a spectacular success story. In some minds this seems to be a race between Barrick vs. Newmont. There is a mind set that sees conspiracies everwhere - for a long time it was the Central Banks (where have they gone BTW?) then it was 'international bankers' - Jewish names in many cases one has to note - 'international banking conspiracy' - shades of something from the past? And then there's Barrick - the most successful gold mining company of all - and it hedges - not the only one BTW and you're right to mention Newmont. Would you buy Barrick here or Newmont? Problem is that there so few gold analysts around nowadays especially in the States-so it's all too easy to listen to prejudiced opinion including that professor from Memorial University.
