9:49: It takes the F-16's from Langley 19 minutes to reach Washington. This means their average flight speed was only 27.4% of their top speed in trying to protect our nations capital. Langley is 130 miles from the Pentagon - F-16's have a top speed of 1500 MPH - 60 minutes divided by 19 minutes = 3.16 x 130 miles = 410.5 MPH divided by 1500 MPH = 27.4%. JO... I live in the DC area... OK?? I heard the LOUDEST Sonic Boom in my life about 10 (could have been 15-20 minutes) after the Pentagon attack (thought it was another attack, in fact).... I was later told that it was an F-16 from Langley who had been told to "kick it in the @ss and get there yesterday"... You don't get sonic booms, let alone ones that forceful and loud, by traveling at a leisurely 400 MPH. The bottom line is that no one dilly-dallied about get on target as quickly as they could, especially when the target was the Pentagon.. That just doesn't make sense.
