Jp, is Alabama where you live? Why is it a tough place to live? I have modern self-interested parents who would rather travel than leave a penny or anything tangible for their children, and so I have always envied children who had land to which to return, and family that would let them live there. My mother has travelled so many places that the only idea left was the Balkans, so that is where she went this summer. She usually just waits for the shooting to stop before she lands in a new country.

Your big sisters took baths in the big tin tub? That brings back a lot of memories. Big tubs are sort of the epitome of American country life. My grandmother would soak the dead chicken in one, and then bring it in the kitchen and take all the innards out and stand over the range and singe the feathers off. I seem to remember there was another part of the feather process--plucking? I also remember the intestines sitting in a bowl of water. Very pungent memories.

You like Seattle weather? I thought I would, but the rain really was more depressing than I thought it would be. It's not cold, rainy weather with a storm that comes in and blows through, it's more the sort of humid balmy grey that just hangs over you. I'm sure that's why the grunge look started there--you're too down to try to look good, and so involved in caffeine-seeking behavior, why bother?
