If the gov't is allowed to ignore Constitutional limitations on matters like the arts, then why should it be held to them in matters of real importance like defense and criminal justice? And it can credibly be claimed the Acts I cited are about just those two things.

I've stated my view that the arts are of extreme importance to government, to the species, and I'm very pleased to see some of my tax dollars going to support them.
Which is irrelevant to the argument.

AND what of things of extreme importance to people other than yourself? Say to Chris Land, our Fundie Xian? Or Evil Vermin? Why, using that argument, should they not at least get federal $$$ to promote their views? Chris claims that not just this current life of yours and mine, but all of eternity is at stake! Evil claims their is an evil international conspiracy out to get you.

Do you begin to see the problem?

the amount of art seen by the public that makes art a powerful humanizing influence.
You're kiddoinfg right? Let's change "seen" to "heard" for a moment. How much music is being broadcast free right now all over this land for your enjoyment? It ranges from hard rock and rap to classical. Take your pick.

But back to "seen". Do not those nightly dramas on television count? What of all the movies Hollywood pouras out.
They may not be your cup of tea in art, but I claim you do not have the right to pick my pocket at gunpoint to fill your cup of tea.
