I am from the UK Sorry, I thought you were an American. I was born after WW2 but my grand parents were in WW1, and parents in WW2. The family was based in the Birmingham and Coventry area. Should have looked more carefully at you profile I guess.-g- I've discussed the ins and outs of WW2 on various boards on SI. I have also studied it from available historical books, and also my relatives POV's. It is my considered opinion that both the USA and Britain could have easily lost the war unless 99% of the population were solidly behind the sacrifices to be made. It took Chamberlain, FDR, Poland and Pearl Harbor to reach that point. WW1 had devastated the public trust in government and military generals etc in Britain imho. /edit... Also I think that Alistaire Cook's column is well worth the reading. He probably has the same POV as you, but makes a very convincing case over the weeks and months he has reported on the subject...
