I'm not completly sure what you mean by your question. My best guess is that you are asking what the state of printing in Java will be when Sun releases a newer version that has proper printing support.

If that is the case, the 1.2 version of Java that will be released after the first of the year will have support for font and printer rendering that is generally superior to the capabilities of Windows. This will allow Java to do anything in a WYSIWYG mode that WP and Word can currently do.

Sun has a lot of great technology coming in 1.2. It just can't come fast enough for developers. Microsoft already has the full technology in Windows, and with JDirect supplies a strong argument for writing to Windows using Java right now. Hopefully, people will be able to work with Sun, bwrite cross platform and still get their applications out in a reasonable time frame.
